Sumol Nazaré 2011: Nuevos competidores (en inglés)

The waiting period starts tomorrow, October 12, and stays on until November 1st.

Amaury Lavernhe, bodyboard world champion, Pierre Louis Costes, vice-champion of the world, Jeff Hubbard, world champion in 2006 and 2009, and Dudu Pedra, one of nowadays most recognized big wave riders, will attend the Sumol Nazaré Special Edition 2011. For the first time in the history of this event, which is incorporated in the International Bodyboard Association (IBA) calendar, will be competing 24 athletes and not 20 as in previous editions.

After finished the Reunion Islands stage of the IBA World Tour, Amaury Lavernhe, Pierre Louis Costes and Jeff Hubbard are now booked to fly to Nazaré. Amaury Lavernhe, from Reunion Islands, 25 year old, presents an explosive and consistent bodyboard and owns the title of world champion. The Frenchman Pierre Louis Costes, 20 year old, is the vice-champion of the world, being considered one of the most talented and promising bodyboarders in our time. With two world titles in 2006 and 2009, the Hawaiian Jeff Hubbard, 35 year old, is the current leader of the IBA ranking. From Brazil arrives Dudu Pedra, 31 year old. He’s one of the most respected big wave riders of the moment, having conquered its international fame in the powerful waves of Itacoatiara, Niteroi.

The waiting period of the Sumol Nazaré Special Edition 2011 starts tomorrow, October 12, and stays on until the 1st November. For this fifth edition, the organization will keep the same concept adopted previously, offering the participant athletes conditions of excellency in terms of waves, inside of the waiting period established.

Nazaré Canyon and Praia do Norte waves
Nazaré Canyon is a rare geomorphologic accident, the biggest in Europe and one of the largest in the world, consisting in a flaw on the continental plaque about 170 km long and 5 km depth. Settled front to Praia do Norte, leads the Atlantic waves to this beach, almost without obstacles, creating waves with an unusual size compared to the rest of the Portuguese coast. A truly playground for all waves sports lovers who find here the ideal set to go over their limits.
